5 Questions about VoIP Phones banner

Switching your phone systems over from a traditional landline to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system seems like a natural move for a business that wants to modernize. But many business owners are concerned about making the switch; some of them have been burned by VoIP phone solutions that were rolled out in the 00’s before they were really ready for the marketplace, and some want to make sure that they retain the current functionality that they have. We’ll have a look at the questions most business owners want an answer to about a VoIP phone solution before they can sign on the digital dotted line.

#1: Will the Call Quality Be Good?

The overarching problem that early adopters of VoIP phone systems experienced in the 00’s was bad call quality. This was addressed by every VoIP provider, to the point where a VoIP phone system may actually offer superior call quality over a traditional landline. UpCurve Cloud will do a network assessment with you before you make the switch to your new VoIP provider, and make sure we choose the VoIP carrier for you that will offer the best service with your current network, or make recommendations to you for the necessary upgrades to your Internet service to accommodate the move.

#2: Can I Move My Current Business Number?

In 99% of cases, the answer is yes. There are certain cases where numbers can’t be “ported”, or moved to a new carrier - but we can tell you if this is the case. We’ll do a portability test on the numbers that you’re concerned about to ensure that you can move your number, and pick the right VoIP service that can move your number easily.

#3: Will My Phones Still Work the Same?

You may have your phones set up in such a way that if Carol’s phone is busy, it rings over to Dave’s desk, and so on. We can help you ensure that your core programmed functionalities don’t change by either installing the system for you or advising you on how to program the new system so that it works the same way. All VoIP phone systems come with the core functionalities of traditional landlines such as call forwarding, and usually offer much more. For example, where you would have to have your in-house technician or an installer go to your PBX box to physically plug in a new hire’s new phone, with a VoIP system you plug it in, fire up the VoIP dashboard on your computer, and set everything up online.

#4: How is It Going to Get Installed?

This usually comes down to a question of price. If you want the cheapest option, you install it yourself, usually with a detailed walkthrough available from your VoIP carrier. You can also choose to work with a provider who will install it for you, or who will ship you your new handsets preconfigured so it will be easier to do yourself. Almost all of our VoIP carriers offer in-depth onboarding training for you and your staff too.

#5: Can I Use My Existing Handsets?

If you’ve invested in handsets for your business, you may not want to spend the capital on entirely new devices. Most softphones and handsets manufactured within the last decade are VoIP compatible, and we’ll be able to tell you if yours are. We’ll also be able to find a carrier that can work with your existing phones in most cases. Keep in mind that VoIP phone systems work with smartphones as well, so you may be able to give up the office handset model entirely once your current equipment’s lifecycle is over. UpCurve Cloud offers a number of different VoIP phone system carriers, which gives your business the power of choice. Describe your business needs and concerns to us, and we’ll find you the right carrier. We have relationships with most of the major ones, and can find one that suits your business needs.
