Google Cloud is bringing its cybersecurity expertise to the health industry, partnering with the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Health-ISAC) to help the global network build a "safe and reliable health ecosystem."

As a Health-ISAC Ambassador partner, the software giant will help strengthen healthcare security as the sector looks to meet current and emerging threats. The Google Cybersecurity Action Team will play a significant role in the partnership, lending their expertise and resources to the critical infrastructure owners and operators in the Health-ISAC community.

Google Cloud CISO Phil Venables announced the partnership: "Partnering with Health-ISAC just makes sense. We share a common vision that building a safe and reliable health ecosystem is our collective responsibility and keeps with values of respecting and protecting each other."

Investing in cybersecurity

Last year, Google announced it would invest at least $10 billion over the next five years to improve cybersecurity, focusing on zero-trust programs, the software supply chain, and open-source security.

As healthcare organizations come under repeated attacks from hackers and data criminals, the need to protect critical infrastructure is becoming even more apparent. Healthcare data breaches reached record levels last year, affecting 45 million people, and experts predict this trend will continue through 2022.

Leveraging Google's experience and expertise, H-ISAC hopes to build more resilient connections between healthcare vendors, providers, and industry groups and assist the group as it expands into Europe and Asia-Pacific.

"We are trying to find ways to provide systemic balance using Google and its resources," said Taylor Lehmann, director, office of the CISO at Google Cloud. "At the end of the day, if we can help hospitals stay up and running free of ransomware, if we can help pharmaceutical and medtech companies produce life saving therapies faster, and if we can help organizations stay in business, despite this environment, we will call that a success."
