How to Use Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange and Outlook

by Denise Hazime on April 9, 2015

Google Apps Migration seamlessly syncs mail, calendar events, contacts, notes, and tasks between Microsoft Exchange and your Google Apps account in the cloud. You can access your migrated account information at any time and from any device with Google Apps. When switching to Google Apps from another program or web service, you and your users have a variety of options for migrating data into Google Apps, depending on the size of your organization and the system you’re migrating from.

Multi-User Migration

Migrate your users' mail, contacts, and calendar data from a Microsoft Exchange server using the Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange tool (or GAMME for short). You can also use GAMME to migrate mail from IMAP servers such as Novell Groupwise, as well as from other Gmail accounts. The Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange tool can migrate emails in bulk with one seamless operation. Each client machine migrates the number of users you specify at the same time. The utility defaults to 25 users, but you can modify the number in advanced options in step 3 of the setup process (See below). Based on current testing using Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and above, you can optimally process 20-50 users at a time on a client machine, depending on the machine’s configuration.

Single User Migration – Microsoft Outlook

Users can migrate their own mail, contacts, and calendar data from Microsoft Outlook to their Google Apps account, using Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook. With Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook, you can import mail, calendars, and personal contacts, either all at once or in separate stages. Additionally, you can import only mail sent before or after a specific date, skip importing junk e-mail and deleted items, exclude specific mail folders from being imported, monitor the progress of your migration and easily pause and resume the migration.
