Release RoundUp: Sugar 8
The Release RoundUp is a series of relevant blogs and videos from our marketing team outlining each SugarCRM release and how it applies to you. No filler or fluff to be found here!
The latest release of Sugar, known as Sugar 8.0 is a roll-up of releases Winter ‘18, Spring ‘18, and Fall ‘17. Together, these updates pack a powerful punch. Here's our Release RoundUp for Sugar 8.0!
The biggest new features in Sugar 8.0 are:
- New Look & Feel
- Product Catalog Dashlet
- Redesigned Emails Module
- Actionable Drill-Through Charts
- Support for GDPR
Keep in mind that some of these features have already been deployed and tested by On-Demand users of SugarCRM, and others are completely new to the Sugar community (if they were in Sugar ‘18 release). This is due to Sugar’s release schedule, which was updated in late 2017--read more on this here if you need a refresher.
A Brand New Look & Feel
Sugar 8.0 has a new user interface. It’s brighter and consistent with the Sugar Mobile experience. While these changes look drastic, they actually involved little change to the code of Sugar and the layout of everything is primarily the same. We personally like the new look because it’s friendlier feeling and easier on our eyes (we do look at the CRM all day, after all).
Product Catalog Dashlet
The new Product Catalog Dashlet is available within the intelligence pane and acts as a visual representation of all your product offerings. Using the Product Catalog Dashlet, reps can generate quotes quicker and with fewer clicks. And in Sugar 8.0, this Dashlet is now available in all Sugar modules (before it was limited to Quotes).
Actionable Drill-Through Charts
New drill-down reporting capabilities allow you to click on segments of dashlet graphs and see a list view of data within that group. Then, users can take action on that data using in-line editing, mass updates, etc. This pulls more data to the forefront, with less navigation effort from the user.
New Emails Module
The old email client (did anyone even use that?) has been deleted and replaced with a much-improved emails module that is more consistent with the user experience of other modules in Sugar. The new module allows you to preview emails from subpanels or list views by clicking on the eye icon. Gone are the days when you had to open each email record in Sugar to find the one you were looking for.
Support for GDPR
SugarCRM is releasing new features to support customers as they prep for the enforcement of GDPR. These include the new Data Privacy Manager (DPM) role and the Data Privacy Module. These two new tools work in tandem together. The Data Privacy Manager role can be filled by multiple employees at your organization. They will use the Data Privacy Module to track and fulfill incoming data requests.
The End-of-Life (EOL) for Sugar 7.9 will occur on November 15, 2018--so it’s time to get crackin’ if your organization wants to stay supported and bug-free! While many organizations who upgrade from Sugar 6 to 7 remember its challenges, UpCurve Cloud is predicting the upgrade from Sugar 7 to Sugar 8 to go much smoother.
