wMobile Resource Manager
The Resource Manager feature allows the customer to add new cultures for wMobile. In this case, we are speaking about cultures as new languages for all resources used in interaction with the user. The UpCurve Cloud team has provided two cultures in wMobile by default: Invariant (English – [en-US]) and Spanish (Mexico – [es-MX]).
This feature helps the customer to add new languages and provide an easy way to insert the translation for each resource.
This plugin is restricted by a system setting called “AllowedUsers”. This setting can be manipulated from the wMobile Manager Console under System Settings → Desktop → Security → ResourceManager.
This system setting acts like an array where you can enumerate the users that will have access to the plugin.
Coming back to wMobile Desktop, the Resource Manager plug-in is located in the Tools menu. Only allowed users are able to see the Resource Manager menu option.
As we noticed from the beginning, wMobile includes two cultures: English and Mexican (Spanish).
This image above shows the Resource Id, Invariant Value (English value) and the Selected Culture Value (in this case Spanish). The Value column is the only column which can be modified.
Adding New Culture (Language)
Adding a new culture is a matter of three clicks: selecting the Add new Language from the menu, selecting the preferred culture, and selecting Save.
Now, the user can enter values for each resource in Romanian. All users that have access to the Resource Manager will be able to add values.
Sample: We will translate into Romanian a few resources: About, Activities, New Email, Projects and Next, as shown below:
Now, it’s time to test the new language by restarting services. An administrator will need to do this in the wMobile Manager Console where wMobile is installed. Select wMobile at the top of the wMobile Explorer pane. Select Restart All in the Actions pane, as highlighted below in yellow.
Select OK to restart the wMobile components. The screen will disappear when all the components have been restarted.
Setting the Language
A user can select their language in the user preferences. In wMobile Desktop, from the main menu, select Tools → Options → Regional section → Language setting. Select the desired language from the list and select OK to save and apply the setting.
The labels for the values we set in our example are now shown in the new language.
The language settings apply to both wMobile Phone and Desktop.
In wMobile Phone, the language is set under My Preferences → Regional Settings. The user can select the desired language and click Save to apply the change.
It is also possible for an administrator to set the language for an individual user or all users in the wMobile Manager Console.
To set the language for an individual user, select Users Options in the wMobile Manager Console.
Select the user from the list.
Navigate to Options → Common → RegionalSettings. Select the language from the list. Select Save in the Actions pane to keep the change.
To set for all users at once, select Default Users Options from the wMobile Manager Console.
Navigate to Options → Common → RegionalSettings. Select the language from the list. Select Save in the Actions pane to save the new value as default. For applying the change to all users select Apply to all users in the Actions pane.
