More Workflow Integration Coming for Google Sheets & Slides
One of the strengths of Google Apps for Work has always been its integration with other software solutions. Google recently announced that this aspect of its service will get much stronger with improvements in enterprise-friendly APIs for Google Sheets and Google Slides. The new APIs will be rolling out within the next few months.
What Is an API?
API stands for Application Program Interface and it does pretty much what its name says - it is a set of routines and protocols that govern how a software solution interacts programmatically with another software solution. Essentially, it’s the secret sauce for what makes integration happen between programs.
What the New APIs Mean for Google Sheets and Google Slides
Essentially, it means that non-Google application developers can more easily integrate Sheets and Slides into their products, as in the example of the video with Sage. Your company will also be able to hire programmers to create custom integrations which can do exciting things to increase your business efficiency - for example, if you run a web design company, you can create a custom Google Sheet to generate an automatic monthly report based on your client’s Google Analytics, with all the high-level information they want in a better format than Google Analytics offers.
Make Charts Automatically Update in Spreadsheets
With the new API, once data changes in a spreadsheet, a chart can be automatically updated - giving management and/or clients a good graphical representation of data in each report or presentation, without you needing to touch it.
